What To Do About Odors In Your Home

Time-Honored Ways to Get Rid of Stinky Odors in Your Home Instantly!

There isn’t anything less inviting than entering a home with bad odors. Many factors go into how a home smells including smoke, pets, mildew and mold. Even cooking creates odors that linger in the air and fill the house with unpleasant scents.

Such odors will penetrate other areas given enough time. Walls, carpeting and furniture are just a few that can become affected. The following are some simple tips to help prevent and stop these potentially rancid odors.

Vacuum. Cleaning the carpets, floors and upholstery ( couches, curtains, etc.) regularly helps to keep your rooms smelling wonderful. For carpet, adding a room deodorizer or using baking soda works best. All you have to do is sprinkle it onto carpeting and rugs and let sit for enough time to take in all the dirt and oil before you start vacuuming.

Wash. Sanitize and clean hard surfaces as much as you can. Using soap and water or some cleaner on hard flooring, glossy paint, countertops, tables and sinks is enough for the surface to stay clean. With a mix of equal parts water and white vinegar, you can make your own environmentally friendly and inexpensive cleaner that works on any surface.

Using lemon in the place of vinegar also has antibiotic effects. For those places that odors accumulate a lot like kitchens and bathrooms, a cleaning agent can be more advantageous in removing those problems. Bleach can whiten and it’s also good at removing and killing mold spores.

Bright ideas. Light bulbs should be cleaned. Oils and dirt can come into contact with heat from your light bulbs that accentuate odors. With a slightly damp cloth, gently wipe the lightbulb clean from time to time. Be cautious that you do not let the damp cloth come into contact with the metal portion of the bulb.

Filter it. Change and clean your filters within the heating and cooling units. This isn’t only going to improve air quality, but it’s also going to make your HVAC system a lot more effective. Be sure you check and replace your vacuum cleaner’s filter as well.

Living areas

Family rooms, living rooms and bedrooms are easier to tidy and keep clean (meaning odor-free, too!). Regular dusting and vacuuming are enough. If there are people that smoke in your home, taking the time to make sure the affected rooms have plenty of ventilation is essential.
